राग
Rāga
conceptoPassion, attraction, attachment to pleasure. In YS 2.7, rāga is the second kleśa: the obsession based on memory of pleasurable experiences that generates desire for repetition. Rāga distorts perception and binds consciousness to the external. It is not eliminated through repression but through viveka (discernment): understanding that pleasure is transient weakens its power of attraction. In the Bhagavad Gītā, rāga is one of the gates of hell that the yogin must transcend. See klesha and dvesha.
