विपरीतकरणी

Viparīta Karaṇī

The inverted action. Literally “to do in reverse” — inverting the habitual relationship between sun (maṇipūra) and moon (viśuddhi).

In Haṭha Yoga Pradīpikā (III.78-82) it is described as a mudrā that prevents the nectar (amṛta) from being consumed by digestive fire. As an āsana, the legs are raised with lumbar support. A gentle inversion with restorative effects.
