Karma-Sannyāsa Yoga · Verse 21

बाह्यस्पर्शेष्वसक्तात्मा विन्दत्यात्मनि यत्सुखम् | स ब्रह्मयोगयुक्तात्मा सुखमक्षयमश्नुते

bāhya-sparśeṣv asaktātmā vindaty ātmani yat sukham | sa brahma-yoga-yuktātmā sukham akṣayam aśnute

Detached from external contacts, one finds happiness in the Self. United to the yoga of Brahman, one reaches indestructible happiness.

Source of true happiness. Bāhya-sparśeṣu asaktātmā — detached from external contacts — does not seek sensory pleasure.

Vindati ātmani sukham — finds happiness in the Self — indicates internal source. Brahma-yoga-yuktātmā — soul united to the yoga of Brahman — describes state of union. Aśnute — reaches — sukham akṣayam — indestructible, immutable happiness. External pleasure is fluctuating; the internal is stable.
