अक्षराणामकारोऽस्मि द्वन्द्वः सामासिकस्य च | अहमेवाक्षयः कालो धाताहं विश्वतोमुखः

akṣarāṇām akāro 'smi dvandvaḥ sāmāsikasya ca | aham evākṣayaḥ kālo dhātāhaṃ viśvato-mukhaḥ

Of letters I am the ‘a’; of compounds the dual; I am imperishable time, and I am the creator with faces in all directions.

Akṣarāṇām — of the letters of the Sanskrit alphabet — akāraḥ — the letter ‘a’, first and fundamental, from which all vowels arise.

Sāmāsikasya — of grammatical compounds — dvandvaḥ — the dual compound (Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa → Rāma-Lakṣmaṇau). Akṣayaḥ kālaḥ — indestructible time.

Dhātā — creator, establisher — viśvato-mukhaḥ — with faces in all directions, the cosmic virāṭ.
