You are the imperishable, the supreme object of knowledge. You are the ultimate refuge of this universe. You are the indestructible, the protector of eternal duty. You are the eternal Person, thus I think.

Arjuna summarizes his philosophical understanding. Akṣaram paramam — the imperishable Brahman, the absolute. Veditavyam — object of knowledge — the goal of jñāna.

Viśvasya paramam nidhānam — the supreme refuge of the universe. Avyayaḥ — inexhaustible. Śāśvata-dharma-goptā — protector of the sanātana-dharma.

Sanātanaḥ puruṣaḥ — the eternal Person — uncreated, without origin.
