Rāja-Vidyā-Rāja-Guhya Yoga · Verse 2
राजविद्या राजगुह्यं पवित्रमिदमुत्तमम् | प्रत्यक्षावगमं धर्म्यं सुसुखं कर्तुमव्ययम्
rāja-vidyā rāja-guhyaṃ pavitram idam uttamam | pratyakṣāvagamaṃ dharmyaṃ su-sukhaṃ kartum avyayam
This knowledge is the king of education, the most secret of all secrets, the supreme purifier. It is directly perceived, virtuous, easy to practice, and eternal.
The chapter title expands here: this is knowledge that even kings guarded jealously. Rāja-vidyā and rāja-guhya do not indicate caste exclusivity, but rather the supreme royal nature of this wisdom.
Pratyakṣāvagama is crucial: this knowledge is directly experienced, not received through blind faith. Like the taste of fruit in your mouth, bhakti-yoga produces perceptible results here and now.
Avyayam indicates that the fruit of this practice never exhausts itself nor is lost — unlike ordinary karma whose results are temporary and limited.
