Rāja-Vidyā-Rāja-Guhya Yoga · Verse 1

श्रीभगवानुवाच | इदं तु ते गुह्यतमं प्रवक्ष्याम्यनसूयवे | ज्ञानं विज्ञानसहितं यज्ज्ञात्वा मोक्ष्यसेऽशुभात्

śrī-bhagavān uvāca | idaṃ tu te guhya-tamaṃ pravakṣyāmy anasūyave | jñānaṃ vijñāna-sahitaṃ yaj jñātvā mokṣyase 'śubhāt

The Blessed Lord said: To you, who are not envious, I shall reveal this most secret knowledge, along with its realization, knowing which you shall be liberated from the inauspicious.

With this declaration, Kṛṣṇa introduces the deepest chapter of the Gītā: Rāja Vidya (the royal knowledge) and Rāja Guhya (the king of secrets). The verse emphasizes that this knowledge is only accessible to the anasūyave — to those who harbor no envy toward the Lord.

Vijñāna means direct realization, not merely intellectual knowledge. It is the difference between knowing that fire burns and feeling the heat. Mokṣyase ‘śubhāt indicates liberation from everything that obstructs our transcendental auspicious nature.

This verse sets the tone: what follows is not for skeptics or the envious, but for those who can receive the truth with an open heart.
