These six karmas, which should be kept secret, purify the body, produce marvelous qualities, and are venerated by the best yogīs.

This verse elevates the ṣaṭkarmas to the status of esoteric teachings. They are gopyam — secret, to be guarded and transmitted only from master to prepared disciple. This attitude reflects the tantric tradition of protecting powerful techniques from misuse.

The principal function is ghaṭaśodhanakārakam — “making the purification of the body” (where ghaṭa, literally “vessel,” is a metaphor for the body). The purified body becomes a vessel fit to contain and direct prāṇa toward higher purposes.

The benefits are described as vicitiraguṇasandhāyi — producers of varied and marvelous qualities. The yogipuṅgavaiḥ — “bulls among yogīs,” that is, the most excellent — venerate these practices. This statement legitimizes the ṣaṭkarmas as an integral part of the path, not as mere auxiliary techniques.
