अव्यय
Avyaya
conceptoImperishable, inexhaustible, immutable — that which does not decay, diminish, or pass away. The [[Bhagavad Gītā]] (2.17) declares: “Know that which pervades this entire body as avyaya — indestructible.”
In grammatical terms, avyaya is an indeclinable — a word that does not change form. Applied to the Self, it means the unchanging witness beneath all change, the awareness that remains when everything else has come and gone.
It is one of the primary attributes of Brahman in the [[Upanishads]]: not created, not destroyed, without increase or decrease. To rest in the avyaya is to find the peace that surpasses all understanding.
