And beings will speak of your eternal infamy; and for one who is honored, infamy is worse than death

The social consequence: akīrtim (infamy) avyayām (imperishable, eternal). Collective memory preserves cowardice more than honorable death.

Sambhāvitasya (for one who is respected, esteemed) — Arjuna has reputation to lose. Akīrtiḥ maraṇāt atiricyate (infamy exceeds death) — inverted comparative of preference. Death with honor > life with dishonor.

The calculation is practical: fear of death that prevents honorable action produces worse social outcome than death itself.
