Vibhūti Yoga · Verse 1
श्रीभगवानुवाच | भूय एव महाबाहो शृणु मे परमं वचः | यत्तेऽहं प्रीयमाणाय वक्ष्यामि हितकाम्यया
śrī-bhagavān uvāca | bhūya eva mahā-bāho śṛṇu me paramaṃ vacaḥ | yat te 'haṃ prīyamāṇāya vakṣyāmi hita-kāmyayā
The Blessed Lord said: Again, O mighty Arjuna, hear My supreme words. I shall speak to you who are dear to Me, desiring your welfare.
Thus begins the Vibhūti Yoga — the chapter of divine opulences. Bhūya eva — again, once more — indicates continuity and deepening of the previous subject.
Paramaṃ vacaḥ — supreme words — though all of the Gītā is supreme, this chapter has a special place. Prīyamāṇāya — to one who is dear — Arjuna is the privileged recipient.
Hita-kāmyayā — desiring your welfare — the motive of the teaching is always the disciple’s welfare, not the exhibition of wisdom.
