इच्छाद्वेषसमुत्थेन द्वन्द्वमोहेन भारत | सर्वभूतानि संमोहं सर्गे यान्ति परन्तप
icchā-dveṣa-samutthena dvandva-mohena bhārata | sarva-bhūtāni saṃmohaṃ sarge yānti parantapa
Oh descendant of Bharata! Oh Subjugator of enemies! By the illusion of dualities arising from desire and aversion, all beings are confused from birth.
Origin of ignorance: icchā (desire) and dveṣa (aversion) produce dvandva-moha — illusion of opposite pairs (pleasure/pain, success/failure, hot/cold).
From sarga (creation, birth), sarva-bhūtāni are saṃmohaṃ (confused). It is an inherent condition of the embodied jīva, not personal sin. The process of creative manifestation includes this limitation.
