इन्द्रियस्येन्द्रियस्यार्थे रागद्वेषौ व्यवस्थितौ | तयोर्न वशमागच्छेत्तौ ह्यस्य परिपन्थिनौ

indriyasyendriyasyārthe rāga-dveṣau vyavasthitau | tayor na vaśam āgacchet tau hy asya paripanthinau

In the object of each sense are established attraction and aversion. Do not fall under their dominion, for they are its enemies.

Dynamics of the senses. Rāga-dveṣau — attraction and aversion — are automatic responses to indriyārtha (objects of sense).

These responses are vyavasthitau — established, inscribed — in psychological nature. The enemy (paripanthinau) is not the object but the emotional reaction. It is not about suppressing sensations but not falling vaśam — under the dominion — of the pleasant/unpleasant duality.
