Those who know the three Vedas, drinkers of soma, purified of sins, worshipping Me through sacrifices, pray for access to heaven. They, having reached the world of Indra, enjoy in heaven the divine opulences of the gods.

Description of the kārmīs — those who seek the fruits of their rituals. Traividyāḥ — versed in the three Vedas — but no further. Somapāḥ — drinkers of soma (ritual psychoactive substance).

They reach svarga-loka — the celestial world — ruled by Surendra (Indra, lord of gods). They enjoy deva-bhogān — divine pleasures — but they are temporary. Once their meritorious karma is exhausted, they return.

This is worship of the Lord for self-interest, not pure love.
