We truly live happily, without hatred among those who hate. Among human beings who hate, we dwell without hatred.

Susukhaṃ vata jīvāma — we truly live happily: su-sukha is very happy, profoundly happy. Vata is a particle of exclamation. The affirmation is of direct experience, not theory: we live happily.

Verinesu averino — without hatred among those who hate: vera is hatred, hostility; averino is without hatred. The contrast is radical: the world is full of hatred but the practitioner lives without it. Not through denial but through inner transformation.

Verinesu manussesu viharāma averino — among human beings who hate, we dwell without hatred: happiness does not depend on the environment being peaceful. Living without hatred among those who hate is the real test of practice.

The sequence 197-200 repeats the same structure with different types of suffering. Each verse affirms the possibility of living happily amidst conditions that ordinarily produce unhappiness. It is not escapism but radical transformation of the relationship with the environment.
