Understanding this meaning, the wise one, guardian of virtue, should quickly purify the path leading to Nibbāna.

Etamatthavasaṃ ñatvā — having known (ñatvā) this (etam) reason (atthavasa). Atthavasa is the rational justification, the “why” of practice. Knowing the reason is not enough; the wise one (paṇḍita) acts accordingly.

Sīlasaṃvuto — guardian (saṃvuto) of virtue (sīla). Ethics is not an ornament but the foundation of the path. Without sīla, concentration and wisdom have no ground.

Khippameva visodhaye — purify (visodhaye) without delay (khippameva). The urgency is not anxiety but clarity: if death is certain and its moment uncertain, purification of the path admits no postponement.
