Yo ca ce cakkhuṁ pahāyānaṃ, sotañ ca ghānañ ca rasāñ ca; Phoṭṭhabbañ ca dhammaṁ vā, sa ve passati maccuno.
Yo ca cakkhuṁ pahāyānaṃ, sotañ ca ghānañ ca rasāñ ca; phoṭṭhabbañ ca dhammaṁ vā, sa ve passati maccuno.
Whoever has abandoned eye, ear, smell, taste, touch and thoughts; that one sees the Lord of Death.
The six senses: five physical plus mind (dhamma as mental object). Abandoning is not losing sensory capacity, it is losing attachment to the sensory.
Maccuno — the Lord of Death (Māra). Seeing him is not confronting him, it is seeing how he operates and ceasing to be his prey.
