Bhikkhuvagga · The Monk · Gāthā 374
Cittena sampādesso, cittena abhiṇehito; Cittena gacchati bhikkhu, cittena paribhāyati.
Cittena sampādesso, cittena abhiṇehito; cittena gacchati bhikkhu, cittena paribhāyati.
Guided by mind, driven by mind; by mind the monk goes, by mind is consumed.
Mind (citta) is the conductor. Sampādesso — guided, conducted. The monk does not go where the body dictates, but where the trained mind guides.
Paribhāyati — consumed. The untrained mind consumes; the well-trained mind leads. Same mind, different direction.
