Ātma-Saṃyama Yoga · Verse 20

यत्रोपरमते चित्तं निरुद्धं योगसेवया | यत्र चैवात्मनात्मानं पश्यन्नात्मनि तुष्यति

yatroparamate cittaṃ niruddhaṃ yoga-sevayā | yatra caivātmanātmānaṃ paśyann ātmani tuṣyati

In that state where the mind, controlled by the practice of yoga, comes to rest — where, seeing the Self by the Self, one is content in the Self.

Description of samādhi: citta niruddha (mind stopped, suspended in its fluctuations) by yoga-sevā (practice of yoga).

The ātmanā ātmanam paśyan — “seeing the Self by the Self” — is the direct vision (sākṣātkāra) of the ātman. Satisfaction (tuṣyati) comes from this self-contemplation, not from external objects.
