Prathamopadeśaḥ (Ṣaṭkarma) · Verse 11

वमनाद् द्वादशघटीर्वारिणः पानमाचरेत् | ततो मुखेन सततं क्षीयमाणो निरस्य च ||

vamanād dvādaśaghaṭīrvāriṇaḥ pānamācaret | tato mukhena satataṃ kṣīyamāṇo nirasya ca ||

Twelve ghaṭī is a substantial quantity (approximately 2–3 liters, depending on the exact measure). The complete practice involves: 1) drinking water, 2) expelling through vomiting, 3) repeating the cycle.

The goal is thorough cleansing of the upper digestive tract. In the tradition, this technique eliminates accumulated kapha (mucus), improves digestion (agni), and purifies the alimentary canal.

The “continuous” (satatam) expulsion suggests this is not a single violent expulsion but a methodical process of internal washing.
