Pañcamopadeśaḥ (Prāṇāyāma) · Verse 18
भ्रामरी कथ्यते देवि महापातकनाशिनी | तत्प्रकारं प्रवक्ष्यामि शृणु त्वं कमलानने ||
bhrāmarī kathyate devi mahāpātakanāśinī | tatprakāraṃ pravakṣyāmi śṛṇu tvaṃ kamalānane ||
Bhrāmarī — the one that hums like a bee (bhramara). It is characterized by the soft sound during exhalation, like the humming of a bee.
The humming is produced with the mouth closed, vibrating in the throat and sinuses. The vibrations resonate in the skull.
It is a calming, relaxing prāṇāyāma. The vibrations stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system, reducing stress and anxiety.
