Caturthopadeśaḥ (Samādhi) · Verse 28
यत् तत् तारक-विज्ञानं यो मुद्रा-तारकश् च सः | तत्र ध्यान-विधिं वक्ष्ये सर्व-सिद्धि-प्रदायकम्
yat tat tāraka-vijñānaṃ yo mudrā-tārakaś ca saḥ | tatra dhyāna-vidhiṃ vakṣye sarva-siddhi-pradāyakam
That is the liberating knowledge, that is the mudrā that liberates. Now I will describe the method of meditation that grants all attainments.
This verse concludes the section on śāmbhavī mudrā and announces new instruction:
Tāraka-vijñāna — liberating knowledge.Tāraka means “that makes one cross”, liberator.Vijñāna is direct, experiential knowledge, not merely informational.
Mudrā-tāraka — the liberating mudrā.The techniques described (śāmbhavī, khecarī, nāsāgra dṛṣṭi) are instruments of liberation, not mere exercises.
Tatra dhyāna-vidhim vakṣye — “I will now describe the method of meditation.”Vidhi is prescribed procedure, systematic method.
Sarva-siddhi-pradāyakam — granting all achievements.Siddhi includes both supernatural powers and ultimate spiritual realization. The method you will follow promises full fruits.
The Bihar School notes that this verse marks a transition: from specific mudrās to general meditative methodology.Svātmārāma presents first the tools (mudrās) and then the context of their use (dhyāna).
The text progresses from the external to the internal: āsana → prāṇāyāma → mudrā → dhyāna → samādhi. Each level prepares the next.
