Prathamopadeśaḥ (Āsana) · Verse 37
योनि-स्थानकमङ्घ्रि-मूल-घटितं कृत्वा दृढं विन्यसेत् मेण्ढ्रे पादमथैकमेव हृदये कृत्वा हनुं सुस्थिरम् | स्थाणुः संयमितेन्द्रियोऽचल-दृशा पश्येद्भ्रुवोरन्तरं ह्येतन्मोक्ष-कपाट-भेद-जनकं सिद्धासनं प्रोच्यते
yoni-sthānakam aṅghri-mūla-ghaṭitaṃ kṛtvā dṛḍhaṃ vinyaset meṇḍhre pādam athaikam eva hṛdaye kṛtvā hanuṃ susthiram | sthāṇuḥ saṃyamitendriyo 'cala-dṛśā paśyed bhruvor antaraṃ hy etan mokṣa-kapāṭa-bheda-janakaṃ siddhāsanaṃ procyate
Firmly pressing the left heel against the perineum and placing the other foot over the generative organ, with the chin firm against the chest, senses controlled, gaze fixed between the eyebrows: this is called Siddhāsana, which opens the door to liberation.
Siddhāsana (“accomplished pose” or “perfect pose”) is described here in technical detail:

Yoni-sthāna — The heel presses the perineum (the point between genitals and anus), activating Mūlādhāra chakra.

Meṇḍhre pādam — The other foot is placed over the genital area, not to suppress but to redirect sexual energy upward.

Hṛdaye hanuṃ — Chin against chest forms Jālandhara bandha, sealing energy in the torso.

Bhruvor antaram — Gaze fixed between eyebrows (Śāmbhavī mudrā) stabilizes the mind.
Mokṣa-kapāṭa-bheda-janakaṃ — “which breaks the door of liberation.” This expression indicates that Siddhāsana is not merely a meditation posture, but a complete practice integrating āsana, bandha, mudrā, and dṛṣṭi.
