Of one whose Agnihotra lacks new moon, full moon, four months, first harvest, and hospitality to the guest; whose sacrifice is incomplete, without oblation to the Viśvedevas, performed without proper procedure — such sacrifice destroys seven worlds.
Severe warning about defective ritual: incorrect action produces negative results.
Agnihotra — the daily fire sacrifice, cornerstone of Vedic ritual. Its correct execution sustains cosmic order.
Darśa, paurṇamāsa — new moon and full moon sacrifices. The lunar cycles mark ritual times.
Cāturmāsya, āgraṇa — the four months of rainy season, the first harvest. Key moments of the agricultural year.
Atithi — the unexpected guest, considered divine in Indian tradition. Ignoring hospitality is ritual failure.
Ahutam… avidhinā hutam — incomplete, incorrect. The ritual must be total, precise, according to rules.
Hinasti — destroys. Ritual imprecision is not neutral; it generates negative consequences, destroys potential worlds of merit.
Metaphorically: action without full attention, without integrity, is not only ineffective but harmful.
