वर्णस्य सविसर्गस्य विसर्गान्तं चिन्तयेत् । शून्ययैव शून्यभूतो हि शून्याकारस्ततो भवेत् ॥
varṇasya savisargasya visargāntaṃ cintayet | śūnyayaiva śūnyabhūto hi śūnyākāras tato bhavet ||
Of any letter with visarga, contemplate the end of the visarga. By the void alone, having become void, one takes the form of the void.
Nineteenth technique. The visarga is the sound “ḥ” — a final aspiration that dissolves the letter into silence. Savisargasya varṇasya — of any letter having visarga. Visargāntam cintayet — contemplate the end of the visarga.
The visarga is already in itself a dissolution. It is the breath that exits after the letter and is lost in space. To contemplate its end is to contemplate the dissolution of dissolution. The point where the subtlest sound merges into total silence.
Śūnyayā śūnyabhūtaḥ śūnyākāraḥ — triple void. By the void (śūnyayā), having become void (śūnyabhūtaḥ), one takes the form of the void (śūnyākāraḥ). The repetition is deliberate. There is nothing to hold onto. Not even the concept of void.
