Prakaraṇa 1 · Verse 45
अनित्याः सर्वपदार्था वियोगायैव कल्पिताः
anityāḥ sarvapadārthā viyogāyaiva kalpitāḥ
All objects are transitory, conceived only to be lost
Hard but clear: every object you can possess, every relationship you can maintain, every state you can achieve is structured to end. Not by cosmic malice but by nature: everything compounded decomposes, everything conditioned changes condition, everything born dies. Vasiṣṭha does not say “do not love” — he says “love knowing.” The difference between attachment and free love is the knowledge of impermanence.
