Prathama-prakaraṇam (Yama) · Verse 17

कदाचित्तत्र गत्वाहं स्तुत्वा स्तोत्रैः प्रणम्य च । पृष्टवानिममेवार्थं यन्मां त्वं परिपृच्छसि ॥

kadācittatra gatvāhaṃ stutvā stotraiḥ praṇamya ca | pṛṣṭavānimamevārthaṃ yanmāṃ tvaṃ paripṛcchasi ||

Yājñavalkya recounts his own journey to Brahmā: he went, praised with hymns, prostrated, and asked the very same question Gārgī is now asking. This creates a lineage of transmission — Brahmā → Yājñavalkya → Gārgī — and validates Gārgī’s question as the right question, the one that every genuine seeker eventually asks. It also positions Yājñavalkya not as the originator but as a link in a chain of revelation.
