Daśama-prakaraṇam (Karma-yoga) · Verse 11
एवं विचारयन् नित्यं योगी मुक्तिं लभेत् सदा । अहं ब्रह्मास्मि सद्बुद्धिर्मुक्तिहेतुरसंशयः ॥
evaṃ vicārayan nityaṃ yogī muktiṃ labhet sadā | ahaṃ brahmāsmi sadbuddhirmuktiheturasaṃśayaḥ ||
Verse 11 of Prakaraṇa 10 presents a succinct and potent formulation for liberation, deeply rooted in the aham-brahmasmi mantra – “I am Brahman.” The verse asserts that consistent, discerning contemplation (& vyāyaya) by the yogī invariably leads to mokṣa, or liberation, perpetually. This attainment isn’t simply a consequence of ritualistic performance or intellectual assent, but rather a direct result of recognizing the fundamental identity between the individual self (ātman) and the ultimate reality, Brahman. The phrase hetu – “cause” – powerfully indicates that aham-brahmasmi functions as the causal principle, the very instrument through which liberation is achieved; it is not merely a supporting doctrine. The statement is unequivocal, dismissing any doubt (sadsaya) regarding the efficacy of sincere affirmation of this truth, solidifying its place as the crucial hetu or reason for liberation, echoing the core tenets found within the Upaniṣads and establishing a direct pathway for the yogī to realize the ātman’s inherent connection to the divine.
