Daśama-prakaraṇam (Karma-yoga) · Verse 12
विद्वान्ब्रह्मस्वरूपः स्याद्योगी मुक्तो भवेत् सदा । निर्वाणपदमाप्नोति ब्रह्मभूतो निरामयः ॥
vidvānbrahmasvarūpaḥ syādyogī mukto bhavet sadā | nirvāṇapadamāpnoti brahmabhūto nirāmayaḥ ||
This verse articulates the core experiential goal of yoga – the realization of Brahman as the very essence of the ātman. The yogī, through diligent practice, cultivates a state where their inherent nature aligns with that of the ultimate reality, thereby achieving a perpetual state of liberation, a state of moksha perpetually experienced. The attainment of nirvana-pada, or the ‘path to nirvana’ itself, is described as the realization of being fundamentally identical with Brahman, a merging that eradicates all suffering and impurity, signified by the term niramayah – free from disease, both physical and mental. This echoes the Upaniṣadic emphasis on the dissolution of the individual self into the universal consciousness, a process achieved not through intellectual assent but through direct, transformative experience, aligning with the foundational principles of both Rāja Yoga and the broader Vedic tradition. The concept of nirvana here is not simply an absence of sensation, but a profound state of integrated awareness, fundamentally aligned with Brahman.
