Dvādaśa-prakaraṇam (Kuṇḍalinī) · Verse 1

याज्ञवल्क्य उवाच - एतद्योगं मया प्रोक्तं गार्गि ते परमं रहस्यम् । यद्विज्ञाय मनुष्याणां मुक्तिर्भवति निश्चिता ॥

yājñavalkya uvāca - etadyogaṃ mayā proktaṃ gārgi te paramaṃ rahasyam | yadvijñāya manuṣyāṇāṃ muktirbhavati niścitā ||

Yājnavalkya’s pronouncement, addressed directly to Gārgī, immediately establishes the parama-rahasya – the supreme secret – of this yoga. He frames the subsequent teachings not merely as instruction, but as the unveiling of a key to liberation, a truth accessible only through dedicated understanding. The assertion that “knowing which, for humans liberation is certain” underscores the profound transformative potential embedded within this system. It suggests a direct, almost causal, relationship between comprehension of this yoga and the attainment of moksha, implying a rigorous and disciplined approach is required to unlock this ultimate freedom. This foundational statement establishes the core mission of the text: to provide a pathway, revealed with utmost secrecy, towards the cessation of suffering.
