Ṣaṣṭha-prakaraṇam (Pratyāhāra) · Verse 18

आज्ञायां धारणं कृत्वा सहस्रारे तथैव च । ब्रह्मरन्ध्रे स्थितं चित्तं मोक्षद्वारं व्रजेत् सदा ॥

ājñāyāṃ dhāraṇaṃ kṛtvā sahasrāre tathaiva ca | brahmarandhre sthitaṃ cittaṃ mokṣadvāraṃ vrajet sadā ||

Verse 18 of Prakaraṇa VI establishes a crucial link between focused dhāraṇā and the attainment of moksha. The precise location of this practice—both at the ājñā chakra, situated at the brow, and the sahasrara chakra, located at the crown of the head—signifies a comprehensive engagement of the yogī’s energetic system. The brahmarandhra, a subtle opening at the center of the forehead, becomes the locus of sustained consciousness when the mind is firmly established there. This establishes a direct pathway to moksha-dvara, or the gate of liberation, reflecting a sophisticated understanding of the subtle energy channels, the nāḍī system, and the potential for transcendent awareness. The consistent maintenance of this state of consciousness, cultivated through unwavering dhāraṇā, facilitates a shift in the yogī’s experience, moving beyond conceptual thought toward the direct perception of reality, a core tenet also found within the Upaniṣads.
