Navama-prakaraṇam (Samādhi) · Verse 5
शिवग्रन्थिस्तथाज्ञायां विष्णुग्रन्थिर्हृदि स्थिता । रुद्रग्रन्थिस्तु मेढ्रे वै त्रयं मुक्तिं प्रयच्छति ॥
śivagranthistathājñāyāṃ viṣṇugranthirhṛdi sthitā | rudragranthistu meḍhre vai trayaṃ muktiṃ prayacchati ||
This verse delineates three distinct granthi – “knots” or “burdens” – each localized within specific chakras and intrinsically linked to the attainment of liberation. The shiva-granthi, situated within the ājñā chakra, the third eye center, signifies the dissolution of ignorance and the direct perception of the divine. The vishnu-granthi, located in the heart center, represents the integration of the higher and lower aspects of consciousness, a harmonious balance achieved through the cultivation of compassion and wisdom. Finally, the rudra-granthi residing in the meḍhra chakra, the throat center, embodies the expression of truth through speech and the overcoming of egoic limitations. These three interconnected knots, each associated with a particular deity – Shiva, Vishnu, and Rudra – illustrate the multifaceted nature of liberation and the necessity of addressing the root causes of suffering at multiple levels. The careful anatomical placement of these ‘granthis’ within the nāḍī system underscores the intricate relationship between the body, mind, and spirit in the pursuit of samādhi.
