Navama-prakaraṇam (Samādhi) · Verse 19
एवं नाडीशुद्धिमाहात्म्यं कुण्डलिन्याश्च चेष्टितम् । मया प्रोक्तं तव गार्गि योगसिद्धिकरं परम् ॥
evaṃ nāḍīśuddhimāhātmyaṃ kuṇḍalinyāśca ceṣṭitam | mayā proktaṃ tava gārgi yogasiddhikaraṃ param ||
Addressing Gārgī directly, this verse elevates the significance of nadi-shuddhi – the purification of the nāḍī system – and the activation of kuṇḍalinī, the dormant energy residing at the base of the spine. The mahatmya – the glorification – of these practices is presented as the core of yoga perfection, a concept central to the Yājñavalkya system. The word ceshtita (functioning, activated) denotes the dynamic process through which kuṇḍalinī is brought to consciousness, transforming the subtle energy channels. This verse highlights the importance of not just theoretical knowledge but of actively engaging with these foundational practices, a key element often overlooked in later traditions where kuṇḍalinī awakening is presented almost as a sudden event. The emphasis on the teacher’s instruction, maya proktam, underscores the necessity of guidance in navigating this complex path.
