Adhikāra

Right, competence, spiritual authority. Adhikārī is the qualified practitioner — one who possesses the preparation, motivation, and capacity to receive a teaching. In BG 4.11: ye yathā māṃ prapadyante tāṃs tathaiva bhajāmy aham — “as they approach me, so I respond to them,” indicating that teaching is adapted to the seeker’s adhikāra. See shraddha, abhyasa.
