दम
Dama
conceptoRestraint of the senses. Dama is the disciplining of the organs of perception and action, distinct from [[shama|śama]] (restraint of the mind). In the Upaniṣads, dama is the second of the six qualities of the seeker: śama, dama, uparati, titikṣā, śraddhā, samādhāna. Patañjali incorporates it as part of pratyahara. Without dama, the mind cannot turn inward.
