प्रिय
Priya
conceptoDear, beloved, cherished; that which is pleasing or agreeable. From the root prī — to please, to love.
In the Bhagavad-gītā, priya functions in both affective and philosophical registers — describing what one holds dear as well as what is intrinsically desirable. Kṛṣṇa speaks of the wise person who sees the same Self in all beings, remaining equipoised toward what is priya (dear) and apriya (not dear).
The term reveals the yogic challenge: to transcend partial attachments (what is priya to the ego) while awakening to universal affection (what is priya to the Self).
