You yourself, Bhīṣma, Karṇa, and Kṛpa victorious in battle; Aśvatthāmā, Vikarṇa, and Saumadatti, and also others

The Kaurava list begins with Droṇa (bhavān — “you yourself”), then Bhīṣma, the elderly patriarch bound by his vow of celibacy to protect the throne of Hastināpura regardless of who occupies it. Bhīṣma is the senāpati (commander-in-chief).

Karṇa, the great archer and brother-friend of Duryodhana, is king of Aṅga but born of Kuntī before her marriage, making him half-brother to the Pāṇḍavas — a tragedy not yet revealed. Kṛpa is Droṇa’s brother-in-law (samitiñ-jaya = victorious in assembly/battle).

Aśvatthāmā is Droṇa’s son, Vikarṇa is Duryodhana’s brother (one of the few voices of reason among the hundred), and Saumadatti (Bhūriśravas) is the son of Somadatta, descendant of ancient kings.
