Bahir dhauti (external) is described here as a technique of swallowing and manipulating air. “Common to all” (sarvasādhāraṇī) suggests it is accessible without special equipment, unlike some internal forms that require specific preparation.
The process described — swallowing air, retaining, expelling — is a form of vatsara dhauti or similar variant. The air “fills the abdomen” (udara-pūritam), cleansing the digestive tract through pressure and movement.
This technique, though briefly described, requires in-person instruction. Manipulating air in the digestive system can be dangerous if practiced incorrectly.
