Dvitīyopadeśaḥ (Āsana) · Verse 9
द्विपद्मं द्विकराभ्यां च धारयित्वा दृढं ततः | जान्वोः कृत्वा तु हस्तौ च नासाग्रे च धृतेक्षणः ||
dvi padmaṃ dvi karābhyāṃ ca dhārayitvā dṛḍhaṃ tataḥ | jānvoḥ kṛtvā tu hastau ca nāsāgre ca dhṛtekṣaṇaḥ ||
The execution of the lotus: both feet crossed in lotus position, held by the hands until the position is secured. Then the hands rest on the knees in jñāna mudrā or cin mudrā.
The gaze fixed at the tip of the nose (nāsāgre dhṛta-īkṣaṇaḥ) is the external śambhavī, the visual concentration that precedes the internal. The half-closed eyes look forward, not crossed, creating a visual line that converges at the third eye.
This triad — sealed feet, hands in mudrā, soft gaze — configures the body as an instrument of meditation. No tension, only containment.
