Dvitīyopadeśaḥ (Āsana) · Verse 10

पद्मासनं तु यो धीमान्भवबन्धविमोचनम् | सर्वपापप्रशमनं दुर्लभं यतिनां तथा ||

padmāsanaṃ tu yo dhīmānbhava bandha vimocanam | sarvapāpapraśamanaṃ durlabhaṃ yatināṃ tathā ||

The rewards of the lotus: liberation from the cycle of birth (bhavabandha-vimocana), karmic purification (sarva-pāpa-praśamana). These are no ordinary fruits; they are existential transformations.

The final phrase is a veiled warning: even yatis, dedicated renunciants, find this posture difficult to master. The lotus requires perseverance. It is not about forcing the knees but allowing the hips to open gradually, month after month, year after year.

The modern practitioner must understand: the lotus is a lifetime practice. What matters is not how deep today; what matters is the direction of movement.
