अर्जुन उवाच | अथ केन प्रयुक्तोऽयं पापं चरति पूरुषः | अनिच्छन्नपि वार्ष्णेय बलादिव नियोजितः

arjuna uvāca | atha kena prayukto 'yaṃ pāpaṃ carati pūruṣaḥ | anicchann api vārṣṇeya balād iva niyojitaḥ

Arjuna said: Then, oh descendant of Vṛṣṇi, by what is this man impelled to act sinfully, even against his will, as if forced by force?

Arjuna asks about the enigma of moral error. Prayuktaḥ — impelled, incited — indicates external force.

The person acts anicchann api — without desiring it — as if balāt — forced. What force obliges the conscious being against their own intention? The question opens the analysis of rāga-dveṣa and of the cosmic nature that follows.
