Alas! We have resolved to commit a great sin, for we are prepared to kill our own people out of greed for kingdom and happiness

The exclamation aho bata (alas!, ah me!, how!) is the first expression of genuine pain. Mahat pāpam (great sin) — Arjuna now accepts his own culpability. Vyavasitāḥ (resolved, decided) — the intention before action is already guilty.

The final diagnosis: lobhena (by greed). All his previous analysis — family duties, fall of ancestors, confusion of castes — reduces to this: the motivation is lobha, disordered desire for rājya-sukha (kingdom-happiness).

Udyatāḥ (prepared, raised up for action) describes the archer’s stance. But Arjuna describes himself in first person plural: vayam (we), as if the decision were collective and shared, distributing guilt.
