Jñāna Yoga · Verse 36
अपि चेदसि पापेभ्यः सर्वेभ्यः पापकृत्तमः | सर्वं ज्ञानप्लवेनैव वृजिनं सन्तरिष्यसि
api cet asi pāpebhyaḥ sarvebhyaḥ pāpa-kṛt-tamaḥ | sarvaṃ jñāna-plavenaiva vṛjinaṃ santariṣyasi
Even if you are the most sinful of all sinners, you will cross the ocean of sin by the boat of knowledge.
Redemptive power of knowledge. Api cet — even if — indicates that no case is lost.
Pāpa-kṛt-tamaḥ — the most sinful — is the extreme, including all less virtuous. Jñāna-plavena — by the boat of knowledge — vṛjinam — the ocean of difficulty/sin — is crossed. Santariṣyasi — you will cross — indicates certainty. Knowledge is a more powerful force than past karma.
