Dvitīyopadeśaḥ (Āsana) · Verse 8

पद्मासनं ततो वक्ष्ये सर्वसंशयनाशनम् | सर्वव्याधिविनाशि च समाधिकरणं परम् ||

padmāsanaṃ tato vakṣye sarvasaṃśayanāśanam | sarvavyādhivināśi ca samādhikaraṇaṃ param ||

Padmāsana — the lotus. The archetypal yogi’s posture, the one that popularly identifies the entire tradition. And rightly so: Gheraṇḍa attributes extraordinary powers to it.

“Destroyer of all doubt” (sarva-saṃśaya-nāśanam). Doubt is the enemy of practice; the lotus, by anchoring the spine in its natural uprightness, eliminates hesitation. The firm body supports the firm mind.

“Destroyer of all diseases.” The crossed position balances blood and energy flows on both sides of the body. It is preventive medicine, seated.

And the “supreme support for samādhi.” There is no more stable posture for long meditation sessions.
