Tṛtīyopadeśaḥ (Mudrā) · Verse 26
आसने सुस्थिरो भूत्वा सुसंवीतो यथाविधि | कृत्वा चैव च जिह्वाया अग्रभागं समाहितः ||
āsane susthiro bhūtvā susaṃvīto yathāvidhi | kṛtvā caiva ca jihvāyā agrabhāgaṃ samāhitaḥ ||
The preparation for Khecarī: stable posture (typically siddhāsana or padmāsana), appropriate clothing (suggesting modesty and comfort), and the tongue touching the soft palate on the roof of the mouth.
“Well covered” may refer to clothing, or that the eyes are blindfolded/half-closed to minimize distractions. The practice is internal; the external world is reduced to a minimum.
Concentrated attention (samāhitaḥ) is essential. Khecarī is not a mechanical movement of the tongue; it is a meditative practice where the tongue is the anchor.
