Śivasaṃhitā 3.72

The tongue pointing upward — rasanāmūrdhvagā, the khecarīmudrā gesture — creates an energetic circuit connecting the palate with the skull’s bindu visarga, the point from which amṛta (immortality nectar) flows downward. The moon between the eyebrows is not the ājñā cakra but the soma maṇḍala, the lunar disk situated at the cranium’s summit in the Śivasaṃhitā’s more complex tantric tradition.

The candra (moon) between the eyebrows is the ājñā cakra as the source of vital fluid. In the khecarī tradition, lunar nectar descends continuously from the skull’s soma but is normally consumed by the solar fire of the nābhi cakra (navel). Khecarī reverses this process: the tongue captures the nectar before it reaches the digestive fire, reabsorbing it into more subtle tissues.

One month to conquer death: another of the text’s temporally specific promises. The Śivasaṃhitā — like the Haṭhapradīpikā — uses such quantifications (one month, six months, one year) not as absolute guarantees but as progress indicators for the practitioner. Conquering death does not necessarily mean biological immortality but liberation from the fear of death, which in tantric tradition is equivalent to liberation itself.
