Daśama-prakaraṇam (Karma-yoga) · Verse 15
एवमात्मपरिज्ञानं कृत्वा योगी विमुच्यते । निर्वाणपदमाप्नोति ब्रह्मभूतो निरामयः ॥
evamātmaparijñānaṃ kṛtvā yogī vimucyate | nirvāṇapadamāpnoti brahmabhūto nirāmayaḥ ||
Verse 10.15 articulates the culmination of Yājñavalkya’s method: the attainment of nirvāṇa following the complete apprehension of ātman. The term atma-parijnana – “full knowledge of the self” – is not merely intellectual understanding, but a direct experiential realization, a profound recognition of one’s true nature as identical with Brahman. This realization eradicates the root causes of suffering, specifically disease, both physical and mental, which stem from the delusion of a separate, limited self. The description of the yogi as “identified with Brahman, free from disease” suggests a state where the fluctuations of prāṇa and kuṇḍalinī are harmonized, and the subtle channels, the nāḍī, are clear. This echoes the broader yogic aspiration, found in the Upaniṣads, to transcend the dualistic perception of self and other, ultimately leading to the dissolution of the individual ego into the boundless reality of Brahman.
