Dvādaśa-prakaraṇam (Kuṇḍalinī) · Verse 5

गार्ग्युवाच - भगवन् योगमाहात्म्यं श्रुत्वा ते वचनं शुभम् । किंचिदन्यत् प्रष्टुकामा तद्वदस्व मम प्रभो ॥

gārgyuvāca - bhagavanyogamāhātmyaṃ śrutvā te vacanaṃ śubham | kiñcidanyat praṣṭukāmā tadvadasva mama prabho ||

The invocation of Gārgī – “Gārgī said” (gargyuvāca) – immediately establishes a dialogue, a crucial element within the Yājñavalkya’s pedagogical approach. Gārgī’s exclamation regarding the “glory of yoga” (yoga-mahatmya) reveals a sincere and profound appreciation for the teachings, framing the subsequent inquiry as a deeply reverent request. Her desperate desire to “ask something more” (kinchidānyat prasikūkam) demonstrates a desire to penetrate the deeper layers of yogic understanding, signaling a willingness to delve beyond mere ritualistic observance. This exchange anticipates the systematic and analytical approach that Yājñavalkya will employ, moving beyond simple pronouncements to a carefully constructed explanation, mirroring the method utilized in the Bṛhadāraṇyaka Upaniṣad where Gārgī himself was a pivotal figure. The use of the term ‘Lord’ (prabho) further emphasizes the devotional element inherent in the yogic path.
