Tṛtīya-prakaraṇam (Āsana) · Verse 11
सिंहासनं भवेदेतत्पूजितं योगिभिः सदा । गुल्फौ च वृषणस्याधः सीवन्याः पार्श्वयोः क्षिपेत् ॥
siṃhāsanaṃ bhavedetatpūjitaṃ yogibhiḥ sadā | gulphau ca vṛṣaṇasyādhaḥ sīvanyāḥ pārśvayoḥ kṣipet ||
The verse describes simhasana, a posture consistently revered by yogis, and its precise execution is paramount. The instruction to position the ankles below the testicles, alongside the sevana (perineum), establishes a specific anatomical alignment vital for grounding the energy. This arrangement is not merely a matter of physical positioning; it is designed to stimulate the mūlādhāra chakra, the seat of primal energy, and to create a stable base for further yogic practices. The yogi’s intention must be focused on cultivating alertness and control, mirroring the regal authority symbolized by the simha (lion), king of beasts, representing dominion over one’s own impulses.
