Tṛtīya-prakaraṇam (Āsana) · Verse 12

पार्श्वपादौ च पाणिभ्यां दृढं बद्ध्वा सुनिश्चलम् । भद्रासनं भवेदेतत्सर्वव्याधिविषापहम् ॥

pārśvapādau ca pāṇibhyāṃ dṛḍhaṃ baddhvā suniścalam | bhadrāsanaṃ bhavedetatsarvavyādhiviṣāpaham ||

Bhadrasana, as presented here, is more than simply a seated posture; it is presented as a potent tool for transformative practice. The detailed instruction – lateral feet bound firmly with the hands, immovable – immediately evokes a sense of stability and unwavering focus. The name bhadrā (“auspicious,” “propitious”) reflects the intended outcome of this posture: a conducive environment for achieving positive results. This technique seeks to neutralize the effects of disease and poison, not in a literal sense, but through the stabilization of the prāṇa flow and the calming of the nervous system, thereby fortifying the body and mind against internal imbalances.
